Silvina Der-Meguerditchian - Yeri Olmayan Bellek | Memory without a Place

Silvina Der-Meguerditchian'ın İstanbul'da gerçekleştirdiği ikinci kişisel sergisi 19 nisan 2014 – 25 mayıs 2014 tarihleri arasında Depo'da izleyicisiyle buluşuyor.

Sanatçının, 2011 yılında tarihçi Vahé Tachjian ile birlikte başlattığı Houshamadyan (www.houshamadyan.org) projesi Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndaki Ermenilerin gündelik yaşam kültürlerine odaklanıyor ve geriye kalanlar üzerinden bu belleği yeniden inşa etmeye çalışıyor. Osmanlı Ermenileri tarafından üretilen her çeşit kültürel ürünün toplanması ve saklanması Houshamadyan çalışmalarının önemli bir bölümünü oluşturuyor.

İlk olarak Heinrich Böll Vakfı ortaklığında Berlin'de sunulan serginin İstanbul versiyonu için Der-Meguerditchian Houshamadyan koleksiyonundan parçaları ve websitesinin içeriğiyle ürettiği işleri bir araya getiriyor. Sanatçı beklenmedik kombinasyonları örtüştürerek, çeşitli katman ve yapıları birbiri üstüne getirerek, son derece heterojen teknikleri birleştirerek düğüm atma temasını sürdürüyor.

Der-Meguerditchian'ın çalışmalarının bütünü gözden geçirildiğinde öne çıkan görsel motiflerden biri, ip, iplik, örgü biçiminde sunulan kırmızı renkli bağlar. Bu bağlar geniş bir çağrışım yelpazesini de beraberinde getiriyor.

Sanatçının çalışmalarında kişisel deneyim ile kolektif bellek arasındaki geçişmeler oldukça belirleyici nitelik taşıyor.

Der-Meguerditchian'ın 1915 sonrası türlü zorluklar ardından yaşamlarını sürdürebilmek için Arjantin'e göçmüş olan ailesinin hikâyesi, yapıtlarını şekillendiren en önemli unsuru oluşturuyor. Kırmızı ipliklerin göndermede bulunduğu çağrışımlar anahtar niteliğindeki bu bilgiyle birlikte coğrafi bir özgüllüğe bürünüyor. Toprağından koparılmış yaşamlar... Ama bir şekilde bellek pratikleri aracılığıyla o toprakla süren temaslarına tutunuyorlar. Bununla birlikte örme ve dikme edimleriyle birlikte bu yaranın kapanabileceğine, bu koparılmışlığın iyileştirilebileceğine, en azından acının dindirilebileceğine, yaralı olanın korunabileceğine yönelik inanç sergide yer alan halı çalışmalarıyla ortaya konuyor.

Silvina Der-Meguerditchian's second solo exhibition in Istanbul will be hosted by Depo.

The project Houshamadyan (www.houshamadyan.org) was launched in 2011 by the artist together with historian Vahé Tachjian. The project aims to reconstruct the daily life of the Ottoman Armenians and their social environment in all its facets. For this reason a part of Houshamadyan's work is collecting and preserving cultural artifacts of all kinds produced by the Ottoman Armenians.

The first display of the exhibition took place in partnership with Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin. In the Istanbul version of “Memory without a Place” Der-Meguerditchian shows parts of Houshamadyan collection and artworks that are nurtured through the contents of the website. The artist pursues the knot-tying theme, the meshing of unlikely combinations by superimposing various layers and structures and combining extremely heterogeneous techniques to create newer and and bolder material syntheses.

One of the leading visual motifs in Der-Meguerditchian's oeuvre is cords of various forms that come in red. Presented as wool threads, long strings and braids, they beget a wide range of associations.

The interaction between personal experiences and collective memory is a decisive dynamic in the works of Der-Meguerditchian.

Her ancestors had to migrate from Anatolia to Argentina due to ceaseless sufferings in the aftermath of 1915 and this autobiographical element has been a pivotal factor shaping her work. It becomes possible to re-read the red threads in the artist's work through a geographical specificity in this light: as marks of lives that are ruthlessly torn away from their soil which nonetheless persist to sustain their bonds to it through various practices of memory. On the other hand, Der-Meguerditchian's carpets reveal the hope of healing the remaining wounds of having been uprooted; for soothing the suffering souls and embracing the wounded ones through acts of weaving and suturing.
